Summer 2017 ASA 101 Certification Course Schedule

Summer 2017 ASA 101 Certification Course Schedule

GET YOUR ASA 101 CERTIFICATION LOCALLY, SO YOU CAN PLAY EXOTICALLY! Complete our 3 day intensive, on the water, ASA 101 course and get one step closer your exotic bareboat charter adventure! Our Certified ASA Instructors are enthusiastic about sailing, knowledgable, and laid back. It is said that if you can sail on a lake, then you can sail anywhere! Lake Navajo certainly has dished out more learning opportunities than I would have thought when I first hoisted my sails there!  Our ASA 101 Certification course entails much more than the 101 curriculum prescribes. There are a few essential sailing skills that every sailor needs to keep in their tool box, and this course will give you ample opportunity to acquaint yourself with them. This is a basic level course, an Intro to Sailing- if you will, that will inspire you to seek more time on the water with wind in your sails. It will require 3 very full, intensive days that will need to be devoted entirely to your acquisition of skills and knowledge. You will need to spend your evenings reflecting, reading and tying lots of  knots! For scheduling and enrolling please visit our ASA 101-103...

Congrats to Peaks & Tides ASA 101Graduates!

Congrats to Peaks & Tides ASA 101Graduates!

We would like to shout out a big CONGRATS to Peaks and Tides’ first ASA 101 graduates to receive ASA Certification. Robert, Tim and Bill were amazing students!! The ASA 101 course is an intensive course requiring 3 solid days of devotion to sailing and course material. Balancing life, work, and learning was a breeze for them. They not only worked hard to learn, but had awesome attitudes along the way. It was a real pleasure to be on this journey with these guys. I look forward to sailing with them in the future! “In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.”  Thank you!...

Out for a Sunday Sail!

Out for a Sunday Sail!

Sunday gifted us with warm weather and fair winds! NOAA.gov was calling for 15-20 mph winds and 25 mph gusts. After our morning chores (which are seeming endless in the world of boat ownership), we were able to get the kids and dogs on Merin Neva for some wind play! Undoubtedly, we were experiencing at least 25 mph gusts! For the kids sake we set just the main initially. She filled fiercely and sailed us up the lake a beautiful starboard close haul tack. We cruised at about 5 knots and dropped about knot during the lulls between gusts. We forgot to pull one of the bumpers up , so the kids gathered around to catch spray as we “crashed” over our mini waves! This was a good sign to Captain that we could safely let out the jib without overwhelming the crew. At 3/4 jib we reached near hull speed at a thrilling 7 knots. We continued to get a little spray after we pulled the bumper. Young Kemp would have loved an afternoon nap, but the heeling kept him alert and happy. Wave Kept a look out for water fowl, fishermen, and floating debris (logs from up river), while Jack kept concentrated on his point sail happily at the helm. Our furry crew, Bella and Frankie, held their positions resting nicely on top of the jib lines. It was great pre-frontal Rocky Mountain Spring Sailing. Sail Durango!...
Spring Sailing! SAIL DURANGO!

Spring Sailing! SAIL DURANGO!

Amazing spring sailing! SAIL DURANGO! We have launched into the 2016 Sailing Season!  Fortunately, as we prepared our bridle for the mooring ball, we had calm waters. The view was spectacular! Even Bella, the sailing Lab was impressed! Spring winds have been fair with our typical morning blow, mid-morning calm and killer late afternoon breezes. The boys cruised at 7 knots Sunday night giving the Rookie plenty of practice tackin’ and jibin’ ! Good times had by all! We are proud to say that we are getting great enrollment in the Summer Sailing Camp. If you have a young sailor to be, you should check it out! Fair winds, amigos!          ...
